The Dickens Event has become a longstanding festive event in the town of Atherstone, in Warwickshire, which encompasses the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights.

This ever popular event takes place on the last Saturday in November every year. Dickens event has become a firm favourite not only with the townsfolk of Atherstone, but also many people visiting from other areas of the country and from other parts of the world.

In 2016 this popular event changed from a night event to an afternoon/early evening event so that we could reach a younger, family orientated audience.

The preparation for the Dickens Event takes months of hard work and organisation. It is thanks to the dedicated efforts of a few individuals on the Committee who give their time freely throughout the year to ensure that this remains the premier community event in the town’s calendar!

It takes approximately £10,000 to stage the entire event, and it takes a year of hard work to raise these funds.

When everything comes together on the day, revellers can enjoy fair rides, different types of food, puppet shows, street entertainers, big bands, market stalls and more plus of course the Christmas light switch on and the grand firework finale.

The grand finale of the evening takes place at the end of the event when Jubilee Fireworks, grand masters of pyrotechnic displays, ensure a fabulous finish to a fantastic evening.

The themed firework display tells an exciting visual story with accompanying music.

So why not come along and join in the fun at this years Dickens Event.
